CIP: "Illustrations representing each letter of the alphabet reveal a variety of objects for the reader to identify." A beautifully illustrated piece of work, The Artful Alphabet is a treat for the eyes for readers of all ages. This book would be better for slightly older readers, however, as the illustrations are fairly busy and the words are more complex than those typically targeted towards the toddler and pre-school crowd. Recommended for ages 5 to 8. Reviews: SLJ offered a favorable review but recommended the title for older readers: "Though not appropriate for beginning readers textually, the visuals will suffice while youngsters grow into the accompanying words." The review in Booklist made mention of the illustrations but also recommended an older age-group.

beautifully, beautifully done. each page features this little red-headed harlequin and words that start with the specific letter being highlighted. a lot of the pictures are made up of that letter capitalized and lower-cased too. I want to make lists of words I like in English and Spanish to do my own artful alfabeto for my students. Props to this libro.
