Review # 1 was written on 2013-07-08 00:00:00 Jefferson Cox Enjoyable nostalgic view of State Street in Chicago during the Christmas holidays of the 1940s - 70s. This book brought back many memories of stores long gone -- a harbinger of today's shift from physical retail footprints to on-line sales. I felt a bit of wistfulness for a time where craftsmanship in store display and window display was highly regarded -- web design does not feel the same. A bit too much time was spent on photos of specific Christmas windows but overall the book is an enjoyable read. |
Review # 2 was written on 2019-05-03 00:00:00 Tommy Groves If you grew up in Chicago and dressed up to go "Downtown" to shop or eat or take in a movie, this book is for you. Wonderful stories of stores, businesses, and theaters long gone. |
