Review # 1 was written on 2009-05-13 00:00:00 Martin Bittner There aren't a lot of books on the topic of Historically Black Colleges and Universities, which makes this anthology all the more important. Rather than review all 17 essays collected here, I will merely mention one: "HBCUs in the Old South and the New South," by Samuel Dubois Cook. At 32 pages it accounts for nearly one-sixth of the whole book. Dr. Cook provides the broad historical overview necessary to understand where HBCUs came from and and why they matter. In my opinion it's worth the cover price just to get this essay. |
