Review # 1 was written on 2014-12-10 00:00:00 Alan Hilton The essays in this collection are of greatly varying quality and relevance to Community and Junior College libraries. A few essays struggle to find an answer of equivalent significance to their inquiries; generally these same essays only tangentially deal with CCs and do not address the specificity of CCs' situations. That being said, a few essays are sublime, such as the case studies of the Kankakee and JFK libraries, not only for the wealth of their content but how easily generalizable their findings are. In a similar spirit of utility, the book's appendices are excellent examples culled from singular institutions but applicable to most any CC. My Goodreads reviews reflect not some supposedly-absolute measure of a book's value but my own subjective analysis. And since the few dud essays are easy to identify and skip over (and handle large subjects expertly addressed elsewhere in LIS literature), I thought this volume did a nice job addressing Community Colleges directly and providing resources for future and current librarians and library administrators. I am considering purchasing my own copy.

Review # 2 was written on 2014-09-03 00:00:00 Helio Filho Should be required reading for those of us entering (or attempting to enter) academia. Also, sociologists write differently from theatre scholars. UPDATE: Having survived my first semester at an institution undergoing serious administrative changes, I see more and more the value of this book. I've actually recommended it to many of my colleagues. It's a weird time to be a college professor.
