Purely academic, mostly reciting of facts and figures, but written well enough not to bog down or be overly boring. Multiple viewpoints are given when appropriate, giving the reader the information and allowing for a making up of one's own mind. If you're looking for some purely historical facts on this subject, this book does the job. If you're looking for something more engaging and conversational, there are probably better choices.
