Review # 1 was written on 2014-10-03 00:00:00 Jackson Tyler Romero surveys the literature from various fields that relates to housemaids and labor issues and finds separate streams that need to be cross linked. She relates employers' requirements to status symbols and also interviews maids of various ages to counter some myths. Most striking is that though employers may consider maids "part of the family" the maids do not see themselves that way. The "part of the family" is used to avoid fair wages and time off etc.

Review # 2 was written on 2015-04-07 00:00:00 Ethan Williams Chapters two and three really helped my understanding of the 18th and 19th century. Malik has a great writing style and makes the history of the discourse of race actually tolerable!
