Another in the series looking at a very specific group of people in a particular place, this time with Filipinos in Carson and the South Bay in Southern California. If you're at all familiar with this series you'll know what it's about: some text telling the reader about the history of the people who landed wherever and the how and why they came to be there. Then there are many pictures of various people through the years, some famous, many not. And that's basically it. If you've read any other books in this line you'll know what to expect. I can't compare since I've only read one other book like this but it seems similar in the sense of what it offers. Whether it's very "complete" or could do more I couldn't say. But overall if you're looking for a specific reference (particularly for pictures), this is definitely a book that would be of interest to a local historian or to someone interested in Filipino history or the history of Asian Americans in California (or Southern California specifically, etc.). I personally wouldn't buy it for my own collection but for the right person it would definitely be a useful reference. Borrowed via Kindle Unlimited and that seemed right for me.

3.5 stars. Good collection of photos of Filipinos in the Carson and South Bay areas of Southern California. There is a lot of terrific Filipino American history within these pages, from the early Filipino workers (manongs) to today's community leaders. The photos are interesting, but it's the captions that are worth the cover price alone: from the rise of Filipino civic organizations to the creation of college-level Filipino American studies classes, authors Florante Peter Ibanez and Roselyn Estepa Ibanez have done a wonderful job of providing an overview of the Filipino American experience.
