Review # 1 was written on 2019-05-22 00:00:00 Matthew Sarratt Stephenville Business College Before the founding of the College of Steubenville and many more years before "Jeff Tech" many area residents attended the Steubenville Business College. As this was the only post high school education available for many decades of the twentieth century, I am disappointed that it was not mentioned. |
Review # 2 was written on 2015-02-17 00:00:00 Martti Meikalainen In the Images of America series, Sandy Day & Alan Craig Hall are responsible for the 2005 edition dealing with "Steubenville, Ohio". This pictorial history of the the town right next door to where I grew up offers a very brief glimpse into the schools, churches & industry that makes this area what it is. The book itself is honestly not all that bad with the things it reveals about this 200+ year old city; however if I have 1 criticism is that it doesn't focus as much (especially on the history side) on things from the late 1940s to the present. Also while the book does reference Steubenville's most famous historical person, Edwin Stanton, it neglects another native son which the city honors in a yearly festival, Dean Martin. Overall, though, I did learn a few things I didn't know about the city right next door to my hometown & would encourage anyone who lives in Jefferson county or has ties to Steubenville to at least pick up the book & enjoy this brief glimpse into the past. |
