Review # 1 was written on 2016-02-23 00:00:00 Denise Henkel I know a little about the history of Golden, but not a lot. If I knew nothing, this would be a pleasant intro. If I were knowledgeable, I could more fully appreciate the images. An index would be a real asset. What wasn't there that I expected to see: • a little more about the Quaintance family • Red Rocks - maybe that's not considered Golden, but Magic Mountain/Heritage Square is included • involvement with the Ku Klux Klan However, this isn't a comprehensive book about the history of Golden, and there is a varied assortment of images, some of which should pique the interest of just about anyone. Here's one such tidbit: "The Overland Hotel, owned for a time by Edward Berthoud, housed the town's laundry, run by a Chinese family. Workers would wet down the clothes for ironing by taking a mouthful of water and spraying it out over the garment." Truly?! |
