Review # 1 was written on 2016-12-30 00:00:00 Brian Hewes This book's wonderful collection of photos creates a picture history of the historic mansion and its surrounding farm buildings. Having toured the mansion earlier this month, I really enjoyed seeing photos of the home when the family lived in it as well as pictures of buildings that have since been lost to fire or destruction. I did think some of the photo captions became very redundant after a while. Would have enjoyed more photos of the interior of the mansion as well as the barns, but I understand that they had to use what they had. I guess people in the late 1800s didn't photograph the inside of their mule barns.

Review # 2 was written on 2013-01-29 00:00:00 Traci Casto These photo-intensive local/micro-histories can be hit or miss; this one is mostly a hit. The author does a good job of covering most of what's on the one-hour tour, and the historic photographs add a lot of interesting perspective to the re-created buildings and grounds. I'm exited for our staff field trip to visit Hampton later this month!
