Review # 1 was written on 2020-08-22 00:00:00 Carol Tacket This book explains (and illustrates) what happens as the seasons change to the ocean and the animals and plants living there. It also includes a full summary for each season in the back and food web cards. I rated this book 3 stars because although the back contains some great content, I didn't feel as though the book flowed that well. The illustrations were wonderful, but I didn't feel as though it was much of a story. I mean even sciencey books usually tell a story right? I think there could have been more transitions with this one. I would use this book to teach about how the ocean changes with the seasons. I would love the food web cards in the back of the book and the summary of the changes for the seasons too. I think some of the vocabulary would be over elementary students heads, so it might not be an independent level book. |
Review # 2 was written on 2015-02-20 00:00:00 Rita Goodell Awards the book has received (if any): n/a Appropriate grade level(s): 1st-5th Original summary: Ocean seasons are something that us humans can't really see. This fully illustrated book follows various sea creatures and how they react to the ocean's changing seasons. Original review: This book gives information in a structured way by separating the seasons and how it effects each sea creature. The illustrations are beautiful to look at. The content is concisely written, not only giving younger students the opportunity to be able to read and comprehend it, but also to learn new vocabulary. 1-2 possible in-class uses: 1) Project or activity on the ocean, sea creatures, or seasons. 2) Can be read aloud and focused on for a unit on the ocean. |
