Review # 1 was written on 2008-10-30 00:00:00 Mathew Heydenreich INFORMATIONAL BOOK: "Fire Fighters" by Dee Ready is an informational book about fire fighters, what they do, how they do it, and what they wear. This book is very easy to read and definitely useful for young readers between Kindergarten through third grade. This book uses terms that may be more complex vocabulary, for example: ambulance, community, or crowbar, but there is a definition page at the end of the book that defines these terms. I think that is very helpful for young readers. The purpose of this book is to educate young readers about fire fighters and the good they do for the community. It also is to explain why they wear what they wear, which can be very terrifying to a young child. The illustrations in this book were literal photographs of fire fighters. They went along right with the text on that page. For example, the book was talking about how fire fighters put out fires, so the picture provided on that page was a photograph of a firefighter putting out a fire. The illustrations are perfect for this informational book, as they provide the reader with an actual image they can see.

Review # 2 was written on 2014-07-26 00:00:00 Joseph Hinton I used this book to teach my children's literature lesson this semester. I had the students tell me what they knew about fire fighters and what they wanted to know about firefighters. I then read the book and had the students tell me what they learned about fire fighters. This is great to use during the community helpers unit.
