Review # 1 was written on 2016-05-02 00:00:00 Shannon Tarrant Quirky, spooky, fun. I liked it quite a bit. John's Song It's a long walk in the dark on the blind side of the moon and it's a long day without water when the river's gone and it's hard listening to no voice when you're all alone so take a hundred lighted candles with you when you walk on the moon and quickly tie a knot in the river before the water's gone and listen for my voice, if for no other when you're all alone Joan Aiken |
Review # 2 was written on 2020-01-09 00:00:00 Donna Villasenor It is so sad how some poems cannot live forever. These here are smart and crisp and weird and full of story -- and yet they are not alive for me. They feel bogged down by end-rhyme and talk of times and places I don't care to care about. Ay. AND YET "John's Song" is gorgeous. Songlike and elegant. X.J. Kennedy selected it for Talking Like the Rain. And this poem is why I sought out this book -- only to find out, ay yi yi -- it is the only poem here I love. I am sad for all of us! So many poems we write, and only maybe one is worth remembering. |
