Not actually a practical guide to the Islands of Scotland - it gives a brief over view of the history and natural history of each island, but doesn't offer much on the practical side of things. (For the islands with only a passenger ferry, what do you do with your car? How was the author's visit? What key things are there to know if visiting each island (i.e. opening times, shops, facilities etc)) Some are more difficult to read due to the font colour and the background image combination - and there's a lot of excess space in the book. An interesting read, but not what it advertises itself as from the title. This is more of a brief guide to each island with big photos.

A good book about a region that I find quite fascinating. One thing I think it was missing are some aerial photos that could add a better perspective in certain cases. Also, I was amused about the repetition of some words, like almost every island being, in this order, a paradise, a haven or a mecca of bird watchers :).
