Review # 1 was written on 2011-09-11 00:00:00 Kimberly Lee So many naughty nuns and indecent monks. This was one of the first historical books to grab my interest when I was a teenager, and one that greatly enhanced my understanding and enjoyment of subsequently consumed historical novels and movies. It is full of fascinating and very human stories about people desperately trying and utterly failing to follow the harsher dictates of religion and society in the European middle ages. The language is very ornate and old fashioned with amusingly flowery language used to describe sexual activities; probably because it was first published in 1963 when Cleugh was in his 70s. |
Review # 2 was written on 2013-03-28 00:00:00 Philip Couch This book has not aged well. But it was pervy and batshit and I do enjoy that. |
