I was hoping that it will be an eye opener kind of book with delicious stories of how Sufis backstabbed their supporters or the people whom they were representing. It turned out to be a purely academically book like Ayesha Siddiqa's military Inc. The book isn't bad but it makes for a boring reading unless one is interested to know how the British use carrot and stick approach with Sufis to keep the local population in line. By Sufis I mean the pirs that were the descendants of original Sufis and were the Gaddi nasheens during Brits time. The Brits enticed them with land, and prestige and they in turn kept their mureeds in line. There were exceptions of course.

Fascinating account of sufi saints of Sindh, their clout over the population & how they preserve their status by collaborating with raj & how they changed time to time.
