Review # 1 was written on 2010-03-25 00:00:00 Marie Steckbeck An early classic in international relations theory. The contending approaches tended to circle around more traditional versus more "scientific" approaches to the study of world politics. Knorr and Rosenau begin by placing this conflict into context, with their essay "Tradition and Science in the Study of International Politics." Then, the conflict is joined quickly. Traditional scholar Hedley Bull opens the volume after the introductory essay. Following are some of the major figures in the debate, such as Morton Kaplan, J. David Singer, Richard Brody, Michael Haas, Robert Jervis, Robert North, and Johan Galtung, among others. This was written long ago, in 1969, but it did a great job of laying out the theoretical disputes of the time. An important book for me in my International P:olitics course in graduate school. |
Review # 2 was written on 2017-03-20 00:00:00 Janice Cook There's no need to read this collection of essays by various scholars if you haven't read Tristram Shandy itself, but if like me you have and were slightly puzzled by its classic status, this book will fill in some of the missing pieces. |
