Review # 1 was written on 2019-12-11 00:00:00 Cassandra Dabor Grandfather's generation preserved habitats for cranes, but during the war the cranes fled Vietnam. It had been years and the cranes had not yet returned. Grandfather believed they would, though. Time starts to run out when the village votes that if the cranes do not return within the year, their old habitats will be converted into rice fields. Will Grandfather's dream come true in time? This would be an EXCELLENT book for a unit on environmentalism. |
Review # 2 was written on 2017-06-18 00:00:00 Lenard Williams Books such as this need to have a map. This is the only picture book I've read about Viet Nam. It acknowledges the war, but doesn't dwell on the pain. It would be a good choice for any family who had someone serve a tour in Nam. The art conveys life in a culture very different from ours, and of course, I like the fact that cranes are the basis of the story. |
