Review # 1 was written on 2017-12-27 00:00:00 Larry Landrum I can't begin the imagine how many times I've read this Christmas classic to my children over the years. My copy is published in 2005, identifying the author as Mary Jane Tonn and the illustrator as the incomparable George Hinke. The combination of the spectacular paintings and the "let's explore/do you see/can you find" interactive text makes for a perfect read aloud. I didn't realize that the original was much larger and included additional images of pillow fights and Santa smoking a (gasp!!) pipe. I will be trolling EBay for that! Not knowing what was missing, my children and I have adored this book for many years.

Review # 2 was written on 2009-10-08 00:00:00 Nadeem Muaddi The five stars is actually for the original book that my mother had when I was a child, because although it is wonderful that they reprinted the story, it is not the same. The illustrations have lost a little of their magic and the text has been somewhat changed. That said, the illustrations are still very magical, and if you had never seen the original, you would never know. I love the little "Brownies" as they help Santa and cause trouble. I love how they make cookies, and blow glass decorations, polish the reindeer harnesses, etc. It truly takes me back to my childhood.
