Beth Booram and her husband Dave served on staff with Cru for 16 years and then went on to serve in various other ministry capacities in the years that followed. Now, she and Dave run a retreat home in the heart of Indianapolis called, "Fall Creek Abbey" - a sanctuary in the midst of the city that invites the weary to come and rest and where they also provide spiritual direction and training for those seeking a deeper relationship with God. Wide Open Spaces of God is Beth's first book she's written (and the first I've read). Each chapter is dedicated to describing different "terrains" we find ourselves in throughout life (the desert, the valley, the mountain top, the promised land, and all the in-between places, etc.), and the kinds of things that lead us into these terrains. If you've lived long enough, you know that transitions in life are often disorienting and uncomfortable. We're often faced with questions like, "Who am I in this new place?" and "Where is God at and what is He doing?". In the midst of our journey through these places, we may be tempted to disengage from life and our relationship with God, but God is always graciously inviting us deeper into relationship with Him, and with that, a deeper transformation of our selves. Beth is a patient and kind companion as you read this book, wherever you're at on your own journey. She shares from a place of having journeyed through these terrains herself, providing you with a sense of being understood in an honest way with where you're at and taken by the hand to show you the way forward. An invaluable resource for anyone who desires to journey through life well.

I'm not exactly sure what I thought about this book. I will have to read it again to get a better handle on the author's theology and to give a more complete review.
