I compared three different versions of "The Three Little Pigs". Two of them were quite similar in story-line and were basically the classical story of "The Three Little Pigs", but this one in particular I found the most interesting. I think that this book is a good one to keep with the more classical Three Little Pigs because it is the continuation of the story, apposed to just having the story from different points of view and having multiple stories that are very similar in plot line. This book, "The Fourth Little Pig" brings something new. If I were to read the first classical version, "The Three Little Pigs", I would have my class do an assignment at the end where they write a short story of what happens after the story ends. Then, I would introduce this book "The Fourth Little Pig" and see if anybody predicted this story or wrote something similar. I think this point of view of a similar story allows for an opportunity to introduce creative thinking and new stories. I also found it interesting that it was a girl pig (sister) that was added to the story, instead of another boy pig. Also, this new sister pig gives a new moral to the story. The first "The Three Little Pigs" teaches children to not be lazy, take the safe route, and think about your choices. The "Fourth Little Pig" story, teaches children to be more free and open themselves up. It's almost contradictory to the original story. It teaches the children to open doors and explore the world without fear. It is a quite interesting twist between the three books.

I bought this years ago at a workshop and I love this twist on the classic 3 little pigs. This version is told in rhyme and takes place after the original. THe 3 little pigs are hiding out in the brick house, refusing to leave and be eaten by the big, bad wolf. Then their sister, the daring Pig 4, arrives and does what it takes to get them to leave the house and go explore the world. I love the rhyme pattern, the strong female character, and the lesson at the end. My students always enjoy hearing this version after hearing the original.
