Review # 1 was written on 2019-01-27 00:00:00 Brian Tougas Read this in order to try to get a better sense of the mindset shifts going on in renaissance Europe. Quite dry at times, but nice overview of the Medieval cosmology influenced by Aristotle (solid spheres for heavens, finite universe, Empyrean solid as well, geocentric) to the Copernican, and the Tychonic and Newtonian theses. I read this as part of my project to read one book from every aisle of Olin Library at Cornell; you can read my reactions to other books from the project here: A fuller review/reaction will follow on my website.

Contains excerpts from the writings of many important Catholic writers and thinkers. A great introduction to Catholic tradition. Included: The Didache, St. Ignatius of Antioch, St. Cyprian of Carthage, Gregory of Nyssa, Basil the Great, St. Benedict of Nursia, John Chrysostom, Aquinas, Bonaventure, Francis de Sales, Newman, Sheen, etc.
