Review # 1 was written on 2015-10-28 00:00:00 David Hoelscher A fascinating short bio of poetess Emily Dickinson, with emphasis on her reclusiveness and the theory that she suffered from agoraphobia. Garbowsky makes a great case for it, as agoraphobia does seem to fit. Garbowsky uses evidence from Dickinson's private letters as well as her poetry. The diagnosis of agoraphobia didn't exist in Dickinson's time, so it's extremely plausible she was suffering from an illness that no one understood nor knew how to treat. Of course we will never really know for sure, but it's interesting to speculate about the hidden life of this famously reclusive genius. |
Review # 2 was written on 2015-11-27 00:00:00 Hernan Romero Often used these days as part of the freshman reading burden, but a great read and overview for, uh... people who aren't college freshmen, but have a keen interest in, or plans to travel in, our hemisphere's tropics. Great focus on Central America & Brazil, birds (Kricher is, by calling, a bird person) and evolutionary biology in general. |
