This a cute poem book about the sun, the moon and stars and is great for early learners. The poems are not traditional poems that rhyme which is good to teach preschoolers all the different ways a poem can be made.

This is a good book to introduce more subtle poetry to children. Lots of kids' poetry seems to be very standard in the meter and rhymes... this one introduces poems in which all the words don't rhyme and the cadence and length of poems varies. The theme of the book is as its title suggests: the moon, the sun and the stars. There are a significant number of poems by the author/illustrator, but also from other authors, including a Japanese haiku, Christina Rosetti and a tongue twister by an anonymous author. The pictures are cut-paper creations and all of the "people" are rabbits. The pictures go nicely with the poems, and after reading a poem, the reader has the chance to let the words of the poem sink in while exploring the pictures. This is a nice, quiet book suitable to be read aloud to little kids and a good starting point for confident readers to explore poetry.
