Review # 1 was written on 2013-07-28 00:00:00 Doug Clark I'm not going to say this is a wonderfully written book. It has its problems, like forced-sounding dialogue and pointing out every time someone involved in the story is black, but not if they're white. But I still laughed and cried at various parts of the book, and I'm so thankful that I read it. However forced the dialogue could be, using it to tell the stories of the people involved in creating, maintaining and expanding the Metropolitan Community Church gave them an immediacy I wasn't expecting. I could hear the hope, fear and urgency in the lives of these people who have done so much for my own life. It gets four stars for telling stories that needed to be told, and for speaking to my heart (and sometimes to my tear ducts). |
Review # 2 was written on 2016-08-26 00:00:00 Erick Rosenholm This book along with Francois Gilot's biography of Picasso fed my obsession and mania for Picasso. I completely fell in love with him, and, because of these two books, understand, completely, why so many women fell to his feet. He was charming, witty, prolific, and always curious. Of course I loved his work for years, but to learn more about his life and the challenges he faced and the love he put into his work made me appreciate him more. |
