(page 113) As a genealogist in the past, I expected to thoroughly enjoy this journey eastward with the author to discover traces of his ancestry. There were almost too many esoteric rabbit trails along the way. The backmatter consists of a good list of sources. |
Review # 2 was written on 2012-10-28 00:00:00 Marc Trudel This book is part of my "research" as to how I want to write a family history book. I will serve as a useful example of mostly history, not bogged down with names and relationships. The chapters, titles and the way he breaks it up by subject, and then mentions which family members were involved is how I want to write mine. He could have used more maps and pictures, but I really liked how it was about pieces of history, and how a member or two of his family fit into it, it was not just lists of names and dates. |
