Review # 1 was written on 2011-12-10 00:00:00 Shelby Wilking I’ve read many books about the cold war at this point, but Peddlers of Crisis really might be the best in terms of developmental tracking and especially in terms of the specific military strategy (containment) within American foreign policy. Pairs quite nicely with The Forty Years War. It is impossible to overstate how the elite within the elite of American politics (which changes characters over time but rarely changes form) prioritize foreign policy above everything else, every single thing, all the stuff people talk about, none of it matters to the decision makers in government and private industry like foreign policy does. If people orientate themselves to the specificities of this fact, I think they will become increasingly less confused, and the question of “why is X happening” will finally receive its reprieve. |
