Review # 1 was written on 2011-05-02 00:00:00 Dunne Macc An absurdist comedy set against the backdrop of the ocean, Seascape is arguably Albee's strongest play and certainly his most idyllic. Idle chatter, interspersed with moments of introspection, characterizes the first act, while the second act stages a lighthearted confrontation between the main couple and a pair of lizard-like creatures who emerge from the sea. As is typical with Albee's work, the play's first half is stronger than its second, which stumbles toward a lackluster end; unlike other of his plays, however, Seascape is consistently entertaining, even if its dialogue is never as deep as Albee wants it to be. |
Review # 2 was written on 2013-08-28 00:00:00 Nathan Kelly It's a Pulitzer Prize winning play by Edward Albee with shades of George & Martha from Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf but with more evident affection between the pair. A funny, often frustrating and in-depth dialogue about what it means to be human, the relationships we form and how they define us. Also, there are giant talking lizard people. I love the legitimate theatre. |
