This book is recommended by Elements of Programming for people interested in brushing up on linear algebra. There isn't much to say about it: it's a math textbook; it describes mathematical principles and uses them to prove theorems. I can say that a co-worker recommended Linear Algebra and Its Applications to me, but I preferred the writing style in this book. The book's description on the back cover says it's targeted at motivated beginning students, or students in a second-year class.

Supplementing with extra exercises from Friedberg, Insel and Spence. This KJ Linear Algebra book has extremely clear exposition and is my favorite text for an absolute beginner to learn linear algebra from.
