Kinda skimmed the book since so much of it I already knew or won't apply to me (not considering adoption at this point). Interesting that only 3 people reviewed it, as it really should be read by the 2 million women who have to go through this (in America alone). There were some great tips in there (had no clue that I can use AAA for Rxs and other resources that I earmarked. I wouldn't say this was a complete eye-opener, but I definitely gained some value.

I know she disclaims this, but it really felt like she got too personally involved in the "research" to be fully objective. What I found most interesting and valuable was the fact that this was written in the 90's and how little the marketing and psychology of the diet industry have changed. Catch phrases and re-branding being used 20 years ago is the same stuff you still see everywhere, from corporate advertisements to the slightly individualized scripts used by network marketers (think your friends who sell BeachBody or Herbalife or It Works or any of those). There is nothing new under the sun. The strong parallels between past and present are what I found incredible. I expected an investigative journal piece, but felt too much conflict of interest. Interesting read, but not ground breaking.
