Review # 1 was written on 2016-12-06 00:00:00 Mag. Patricia Chmelarova Sometimes, to borrow a phrase from someone I used to know, reading lit crit is 'like eating soup with a fork.' But if it makes me want to just go read the literature in question, it's accomplished its mission. I liked this book and I liked that he was not afraid to call bullshit on some critics who just got carried away making something out of nothing. Sometimes the story is just the story and not a coded message, and you appreciate a book better if you're just reading it and not also trying to discern some subtext. |
Review # 2 was written on 2014-08-10 00:00:00 Lawrence Salus I thoroughly enjoy Welty's black-and-white photography: the people, the architecture, sometimes the oddball thing, and how she plays with lighting and texture, among other things. |
