I came upon this book looking for sources on Husserl. I am somewhat read in regards to Heidegger so I figured this would be a good source for comparison/analysis. I was somewhat surprised by the characterization of Husserl as providing a quasi-metaphysical justification for time given his reputation as a phenomenologist, but I have no grounds to critique this work for that representation not being familiar with the primary sources. The parts here dealing with Heidegger were really enjoyable given that they deal with my favorite aspects of his philosophy: the specious-present, care, in/authenticity, and being-with. The final analysis in the last two chapters is really engaging but I would have liked the author to develop their thesis further. I have an aversion to punctual time conceptions; or, "carpe diem" as it is popularly celebrated. The author does a good job at incorporating the time aspect of Heidegger's philosophy into his notion of identity and subsequent relation to the question of authenticity.

Best line - one must be destitute to be a philosopher. The sense of desperation puts all the inessential questions to the wayside...but, as I found in my times being poor, it always turned me into a communist. One always gravitates towards, no, obsesses about what one lacks! Power, money, sustenence..which creates a sense that one has fallen out of capitalist times where all is provided at one with the middle class pie in the sky.
