With volume 2, this is a must read to understand Brazil. Just remember, this is a history of Portuguese in Brazil and is brutal. It does not reflect much of modern Brazil, although it sheds light on how and when long term, rich land owners got a leg up in Brazilian society. The sentence structure of James Hudderd is complex, so be prepared to read slowly.

AS THE CAPS-HAPPY BOOK SUMMARY ABOVE MIGHT SUGGEST, JAMES HUFFERD'S PROSE STYLE IS COMPLETELY UNREADABLE
