Review # 1 was written on 2020-02-19 00:00:00 Saad Haithm As a sociology student, this is the first sociological work that I extremely admired that gives an account about life in the Arab world. In writing this book, Tamari proves that he is one of the finest Arab and perhaps world's sociologists. The book is made up of an introductory chapter that addresses social life in Palestine prior to British colonialism and provides the reader with a detailed account of how life was like, not only from a social perspective but also from economic, political and many more details. This is followed by several chapters that are based on the memoirs of Arab writers and intellectuals who describe the lifestyle in the late ottoman time. Excellent book and a must-read for everyone interested in that history. |
Review # 2 was written on 2015-06-05 00:00:00 Michael Peery Thus far Bayat is tracing the trends within Islamic politics that are following their middle-class origins to their middle-class conclusions in terms of strategy and ideology. The flaw - and a major one at that - is that Bayat denies any movements by the working class. |
