I like the essay approach to describing the four divisions made by the editor between: religion in popular culture, popular culture in religion, popular culture as religion, and religion and popular culture in dialogue. Who would have thought there was so much liberation theology in the music of Madonna or that the image of the oriental monk has served as media spokesperson for the introduction of the west to eastern philosophy. Those are just two ideas of the many concerning the overlapping of popular culture and religion. |
