This is a good overview of Lincoln's life and his presidency.

The vocabulary throughout this book is detailed, specific as well as correct but the author uses little amounts of figurative language (this is likely due to the fact that it is a non-fiction biography book). The author's illustrations and "comic" like pictures create a sense of personal voice in this book. This book is filled with little-known facts and specific dates and historical information that I previously knew little about. The book does not have quotations, but it does include photos of original historical documents and photographs when describing particular events. The images add validity to the books statements and allow readers to fully understand what the book says. One specific issue i have with this book is the artistic style. I personally feel that the comic strips were confusing and often unrelated to the content of the book. Although they add an element of creativity, I feel that a biography about an important historical figure should be factual and written in a serious manner. This book is written for a younger audience and the comics contain underlying messages and confusing concepts that could be difficult for young children to understand. The photographs throughout the book are quality and the artwork captions describe the images in a clear and understandable manner.Overall, this book is an easy read filled with a large amount of interesting information. I would not include this book in my future classroom library and do not think this book would be a good book to give students learning about Abraham Lincoln.
