1. "Tomas Rivera" by Jane Medina is a story about Tomas Rivera living in Texas. It explains how he is a boy who enjoyed reading with his grandfather. Later in life he became a teacher and a writer. 2. This book is part of my first grade Journey's curriculum. It introduces biography to children. The children can relate to Tomas and make a connection to reading with someone from their family. Afterwards an extension can be children writing biographies about a friend in the class. 3. I would pair this book with "Who was Neil Armstrong" by Roberta Edwards. 4. "Tomas Rivera was born in Texas. He and his family went from farm to farm picking crops."
