Review # 1 was written on 2011-07-17 00:00:00 Todd Wolter In this book we read about the three kingdoms that were present before humans came on earth. Each of these kingdoms were ruled by an animal. The forest was ruled by an elephant, the sea by a shark, and the air by the hawk. Each of these rulers belivecd thier kingdom was the greatest. people then came into the world and the rules did not want to share their kingdoms.The people thought of clever ways to trick these rulers to share. The illustrations are full of color. i got the sense of a stained glass window or a mosaic. the pictures added a mistical quality to the story.

The pictures are beautiful and the message is sound: the greatest human strength is our ability to tell, understand, and learn from stories. This would be a great introduction story to a fable unit or short story unit, helping students understand the importance of literature as a teaching tool beyond the classroom. The pictures are bright and contain strong lines and plenty of African beauty.
