Review # 1 was written on 2008-12-08 00:00:00 Susan Singer In response to most things I read about Navajo culture/people, I often find liberal ideals projected on Navajo people by white sociologists - not so with Witherspoon. While teaching on the Navajo reservation, I had the opportunity to develop intimate relationships with many people in my community, and in my opinion, Witherspoon "gets it." His description of Navajo culture is very thorough and within the realm of reasonable interpretations of Navajo culture.
