Quote from the book ('How to use this book'): "First of all, congratulations for having come this far! You are obviously very serious about learning Spanish." I haven't read the first book of the series (Colloquial Spanish), so I don't know whether the series as a whole is gentle enough for novice students. This book draws heavily from (I guess) original texts, thus the required vocabulary is rather wide. Grammar, on the other hand, is prescribed in sympathetically small doses. I just scanned this book fast to check whether I'd learn much in terms of grammars or idioms. Not really, but enough new words to chew and swallow before plunging to the real, colloquial world that is Spanish-speaking.

Amazing read. I learned a lot about military and guerilla strategy, the day to day life of the revolutionaries in the woods of the Sierra Maestra and the Cuban peasant life of the late 50s. I was captivated by the hopes and dreams of a whole generation of young men and women, and very touched by the numerous tales of bravery and falling soldiers... must read!
