Review # 1 was written on 2009-05-28 00:00:00 Jon Spins Absolutely fascinating history of the Japanese consumer electronics boom. Rather than focusing on one sector, the book is subdivided into several different stories that dig deep into Japanese life and work culture to show how innovators like Yamaha came out of nowhere to take over their respective worlds. It's not a dry read - it's interestingly emotional, personal, and packed with intrigue, though it won't do any mythbusting of the whole "oh, so sorry, I steal your patent now!" 'Sneaky Jap' stereotype. |
Review # 2 was written on 2016-07-12 00:00:00 Tracey Savage How could I not read about the man who engineered one of the greatest escapes in modern history! Reading this book and knowing the background of his escape from Japan made me laugh out-loud multiple times. I wrestled with a few of the lessons (Be patient, Establish priorities) due to the nature of his escape, but...he was a great CEO somewhat of a turnaround artist. He is also the same person who was smuggled out of Japan in a crate in some sort of Midnight Express rendezvous situation! |
