I love Project Runway and I love Christian Siriano. I own several pairs of his Payless shoes and I look forward to seeing his runway designs. When I saw that he had written this book, I decided to check it out, figuring it would at least have a lot of great photos. I was wrong. There are surprisingly few photos here in spite of the fact that Siriano's livelihood is based on visual presentations. Instead, the majority of this book is spent doling out advice on how to be "fierce." Perhaps it is due to his youth, but most of the advice comes off as artifical and just a rehash of what everyone else dispenses. It is also quite annoying that Siriano puts a red star next to every word that he has claimed as his own, with a dictionary in the back, even though many are self explanatory. (Do we really need an explanation of "lady" or "hot tranny mess," especially when they are used about a hundred times each?) The best pieces of this book are the biographical ones where Siriano tells stories about his successes and mishaps with fashion, the roots of his interest (a Wizard of Oz obsession) and the other jobs he has held. This is where the focus of the book should have been and since these moments are only peppered in, the book falls flat.

How I found this book: I saw a Tim Gunn single on Amazon and wasn't sure if I wanted to buy it so I read a few reviews. Most said it was a shortened version of his full length autobiography/advice book. But then reviewers were mentioning this book. So I clicked over to Fierce Style and read reviews that were saying how they were surprised at how down to earth and humble this book is and what wonderful advice he gives for every size and price range. So I ordered it from the library. This book is FIERCE! I just loved it! He gives great advice for pretty much everything from style to taking chances in life to living with downfalls. Just wonderful and from such a young man! (I'm 50 by the way.)
