While some of the advice for international students is solid, I'm appalled at the author's suggestion to "marry an American - one who is a native speaker and rich." I sincerely hope that this is sarcasm, but can really not tell, especially since the author later says, "I took my own advice. I married a native Spanish speaker. He wasn't rich, but my Spanish is pretty good." If I can not detect sarcasm and joking, how can non-English speakers? Many other cultures have very different ideas and expectations about marriage - foreigners could read this book, take it seriously, and make some very bad choices about marriage and relationships. Some of the advice about participating in class, and practicing the language in different ways, is helpful, but I would never hand this book to an international student.

I need to sit back down with the book with paper and pen to extract from it some of the ideas I would like to use next year. This book would make an excellent foundation tool for the course I hope we can have on SAT vocabulary building and general word play.
