A good fun read - though perhaps not as strong as the rest of the series.

*spolier alert* A great book to end the series. I KNOW that I will definitley be reading this again. This was a great improvement compared to the boring the atmosphere of it's predecessor Montmorency and the Assassins: Master, Criminal, Spy?. Full of action that kept me on edge. I stayed up the whole night till twelve to finish the book. I hated that it had to end with Montmorency being murdered but I Updale had thought through this and I should admit that I wouldn't have picked a better ending. When Montmorency gets shot, the party below would have heard the gun and catch Malpensa before he left. Frank would have no satisfaction in just killing him even though I'm pretty sure that he'll try. Tom will now be without a father which is what I regret most of all bcause he's such a good kid and he has already been through a lot already. Mary would now have lost the love of her life for the second time and there is no chance that he's going to come back since it Malpensa aimed at his head. I was lamenting for five whole minutes when I finished the book. Well, it just goes to show that there are no happy endings in the real world and though I am afflicted by the sad ending, Updale has done a good job at making the story realisitc. It was horrible to deal with George's death in prequel but I couldn'teven think of the story going on without Montmorency which is why I'm glad this is the end. I gave the book 4 stars becuase even though it was action packed, there wasnt enough seriousness about hte whole conspirancy int ehair. People in real life would not act as laid back as the characters in this book. But I am sure as heck that I'll come back to read these wonderful books again.
