Personal response I read this book, Patch, to my seven year old sister, Nora. Nora thought the book was amazing, she liked when the two girls and their horses became friends. I enjoyed the time with my sister. When I was little I used to read this book alot, now I can share this book with her. Plot This book started with a girl named Lauren and her horse Patch. When they were at the stable, they meet a new girl named Sarah and her horse named Gold Charm. Lauren was going to take her horse for a trail ride in the woods, and Sarah wanted to come. Sarah came and took over by taking the lead, that resulted in Gold Charm getting scared by a bird. Gold Charm took off running. Lauren and Patch went after her. Sarah was so thankful to Lauren for helping her calm her horse down. They all became friends after that. Characterization Lauren Lauren was a member of the stable for a while. She had a horse named Patch. She never stopped believing her horse was the best, even when Sarah questioned it. As the day went on, Lauren and Sarah became friends. Sarah Sarah was the new girl at the stable. She had a horse named Gold Charm. She thought her horse was better than Patch. After the ride in the woods, Sarah realized Patch was not a bad horse. She became friends with Lauren. Setting This book takes place in modern time over the course of one day. They are at a horse stable and on the wooded trail next to the stable. The setting is important because being at a stable helps make it known the girls have horses. The story could happen in the world today. Theme The theme of this book is do not judge. Sarah thought just because Lauren had an old horse, it was a bad horse. By the end of the book she realized even the old horse can be a good horse. Recommendation I would recommend this book to girls ages seven to ten. I think this is the best age group for this book. This book would help girls with their reading skills, and the story of the book is very good. I think girls seven to ten should give this book a try.
