Review # 1 was written on 2019-03-04 00:00:00 Jay Fraude A quick read about the world of Narnia that offered an interesting take on C.S. Lewis' Chronicles. I feel like this is more aimed to a younger audience and seems to have a certain agenda behind it. The book did impart some fascinating information¸ but it felt a little light on and seemed to gloss over some things that I thought would be covered. 3 stars. |
Review # 2 was written on 2011-07-22 00:00:00 Nathan Weber After having just read Aslan's Call: Finding Our Way to Narnia by Mark Eddy Smith, this book at first blush seemed redundant. But where Smith focused solely on the Christian applications and allusions of Narnia, Colbert started with the premise that Narnia is not nearly as Christian as people seem to assume. I found this book to be more comprehensive, and while Colbert backs up his assertion that the basis for many elements of Narnia are not Christian tradition but various myths, legends, and contempoaneous works of literature, he actually went about proving to me that Narnia as a whole is less about Christianity and more about Lewis' brand of (or views on) Christianity. A subtle, but very important difference. I found this book very thoughtful and well researched. I look forward to reading for myself some of the books that influenced Lewis that I had previously not read. |
