What I loved most about this book was the author's acknowledgement of the way our modern day perspectives colors how we see history- something many history writers ignore. Although I sometimes found myself dragging through the details, there were definite gems in this book that kept me moving forward. As a teacher I loved that Percoco connected the job of a teacher with that of a sculptor's- their goal is the same, to shape and mold. A good read that I would recommend to anyone who loves Lincoln or public monuments.

I enjoyed this book although it wasn't quite what I was expecting. I was expecting more of a travel book at Lincoln sites on the family vacation. The book discussed several major monuments of Lincoln and the past and present feelings and ideas about them.
