I've just started rereading this book because it was so good. One concept that really hits home is that of active listening, not just listening to identify the problem, waiting so that I can present a solution. That's usually a typical Way that most men treat conversations. Weather there with children, or women. We want to identify problem, and then give the solution, then move on :-) There were many other concepts that I need to review, but I think this one was really important. Listening to their words, parroting them back, to make sure that you understand what they are telling you the problem is. So important.

Our bookshelves are full of books about becoming a mom--what to expect, what you wouldn't expect, etc. There's not much out there about becoming a dad. I'm glad Dr. Sears is working to fill this gap. I'm especially glad that there's an attachment parenting perspective on becoming a dad. My favorite part of this book was the chapter on how to PLAY with the baby at different stages of development. Simple info about sight, hand-eye coordination, and attention span have revolutionized the ways I'll interact with this little one when it arrives in a month. Dads, this is definitely worth a read!
