I read this book first when I was 22, very close to me separation. The age and the circumstances clearly made it an enjoyable read but the re-read made me see the massive issues and plot holes in this book and I could no longer offer anything higher than 2 stars. The thing with the hero was, even if he didn't appear to be a bully, he actually was one. He was just not violent or expressive bully. He didn't care for the heroine's feelings in the whole situation even for a moment no matter what he claims in the last page. He had bullied both the heroine and his stepbrother (Michael) throughout the whole book non stop. Even if Michael was a handful and a louse, that doesn't change the fact that hero was a bully. He also was extremely selfish and cared for his feelings alone. First he thought she was a thief so he tailed her, trapped her and seduced her then purely dumped her when the daylight hit. He made excuses and implied it was first the heroine's then her boss's fault that he pulled a runner on her. Then he decided to physically remove the heroine from the brother's company and seduce her all over again, when she was really not interested. It was not forced deduction. However, hero was condescending and just plain ignored anything she said. It was so frustrating that I myself at one point was like "oh what the hell, what's the point talking to this thick head at all, either f*** him or call the cops, you only have two options girl"! Then apparently he decided she's the love of his life DESPITE being the thief and liar and he'll kidnap her and marry her in New York. Mind it. He STILL FUCKING BELIEVES SHES A THIEF, LIAR AND AVARICIOUS BITCH. Which is clearly demonstrated during his conversation with her regarding the bracelet in his house and then his conversation with his lawyer. In all this, the heroine's feeling did NOT come me into consideration EVER. She rather told him she didn't love him. She was not even asked to marry him. He just randomly started making announcement in front of people she didn't know and how does she back off? She's overseas, took the jet with him so probably doesn't have her plastics with her, she doesn't have connections, SHE had been infatuated with this guy since 17, and even though what he subtly doing is bullying her into submission, he appears to be a nice guy, who doesn't seem to care about class, whose kind to his household staffs, who's very kind to a shy young woman who needed his brotherly affection. Now "I" personally would have told him to back the fuck off, and give me space, call Michael and find out the other side of the story before tying the knot. However sadly, book is not about me, which is a pity, it would've been a damn good psycho thriller. So our heroine, who had NO other job in the whole book other than being propositioned by 2 men and then managed and seduced by the hero, suddenly grows a temporary magic backbone! And dumps his sorry ass after the wedding. Now she's in a cab, cab stops at red light, he opens the door and physically picks her up and removes her from it while she had been screaming her lungs out that this is NOT consensual! What does the cabbie do? Does he call for the police? Does he knock the hero out? Nope, he all but helps the hero pick the heroine up. Thankfully she's not as heavy, hero managed himself, his pride is intact. Now I'd be worried to ever go out in NY after reading this one. I mean just imagine if a kidnapper is trying his way with me, people try to help, he says he's my husband and they let him off the hook - well I would be well and truly screwed! And then he kidnaps her. She makes him sleep in the other room. He offers eggs and bacons and explanation over breakfast. Tells her he only married her because of love. All is forgiven. I mean of course all is forgive, did I not mention the bacon and egg? So get temporary backbone has vanished while she slept! IMO, he was forgive way too easily. She SHOULD have been able to make it to London and he should have had to follow and grovel for a very long time. The only lesson he got: you don't get a wedding night if you mess with your bride! That's it. That was his retribution . Poor little man child didn't get a wedding night!

I didn't like it. I don't expect a masterpiece of literature when I read those Presents, but this is below average. There's no description of the character's feelings. There's only a very cold and almost robotic description of their actions. The heroine turns out to be a puppet who hasn't any idea why she does the things she does . I understand that she was infatuated with the hero because she saw him some years ago (even if they never spoke) and when she met him again she was still under that first impression, but actually she had sex with him without knowing him, she accepted to go with him on a journey to New York, after he basically told her she was an easy lay and two days later she agreed to marry him, even knowing he didn't love her. Really??? And the hero was cold and cruel in the beginning, then he asked her to marry after two days and still I don't understand why. Both characters are very inconsistent. There are also many repetitions, actually the book seems lacking a good editing. I know that this review doesn't make much sense but it's the perfect mirror of my feelings about this book.
