3.5*/4* No book blurb on GR so here's a quick summary. 13 years ago, when Lauren was just 16, she got drunk and I'd say raped by her so called rich boyfriend, and got pregnant. He of course denied all responsibility and poor Lauren's baby girl was taken away for adoption two days after birth. Lauren did not even have a photo for memory. To get away from the gossips her parents soon moved them all to Toronto where Lauren was thrust into a new life. She never forgot her baby, and now at age 29 she knew her baby would not be a child any longer and she had to see her! Through a PI, she traced her baby to Bradley Laxton. Her baby was now Kerry Laxton. Conveniently *ahem* Brad was a widower...had been for the past five years. So Lauren managed to get the job as nanny/companion to Kerry for the rest of summer. She was going to cherish this once in a lifetime chance to spend time with her daughter, but what she did not bargain for or factor in was the instant attraction to Brad. To be honest I really felt for Lauren. She was in such an untenable position. It's bad to start a new relationship, least of all a marriage, on lies. She had this one big secret, and even Brad agreed if he had known who she was he'd never had let Lauren near Kerry unless Kerry agreed. At the beginning all Lauren had wanted was these few weeks pretending to be just the nanny, and go away without disrupting their lives. But Brad proved too persistent and irresistible! Their sexual chemistry was hot! But I wish the author had given them maybe the whole of the summer to really fall in love. The insta-lust/love made it a bit unbelievable though we all want to believe in fairy tales and love at first sight! So far I am preferring Kay Thorpe's "modern" romances to her vintage ones, though those were angsty and dramatic too.
